Aaron Fotheringham & Colours Wheelchair team up for the X Games 14

By PR Newswire
Carson, CA (PRWEB) — Aaron Fotheringham, 17 years old, is the newest discipline in action sports. He will be performing an exhibition called Skateboard Super Park Adaptive Jam at X Games 14 at the Home Deport Center soccer field on August 1, 2008 from 3:30 pm to 3:45 pm.

This is the first time the X Games has featured disabled extreme athletes at their event. There will be 17 disabled athletes: 9 skateboarders and 8 Moto X riders. Fotheringham is the only disabled skateboard athlete that performs his tricks from his wheelchair.

Fotheringham has Spina Bifida; he has used a wheelchair since the age of three and although he used crutches early on, he has been in a wheelchair fulltime since the age of eight. Fotheringham is the first person to do a back flip in a wheelchair and is planning on doing one at the X Games. He would watch his brother riding his BMX at the skate park and one day his brother told him that he should try riding his chair in the skate park. Fotheringham later noted “I did, and I was hooked.”
